An Assessment of Progress toward Microbial Control of Plant-Parasitic Nematodes.

چکیده
In recent years, continuing environmental problems associated with the use of nematicides (47) have introduced a sense of urgency into the search for alternative methods of nematode management. For the past 90 years, research on the biological control of nematodes with microbial agents has been done by a few dedicated nematologists who have worked in small groups with little support. About 10 years have passed since it was recognized that in some soils nematode multiplication was suppressed by nematophagous fungi. For the first time, biological agents were shown to provide longterm effective control of cyst (29) and rootknot nematodes (45) in the field. However, this control had developed fortuitously in soils and did not result from the release of an agent. At about the same time, a French company produced the first commercial biological control agent for nematodes based on a nematode-trapping fungus (10). The optimism that resulted from these developments has led to a considerable increase in research effort, but unfortunately

Susceptibility Assessments of Tomato Genotypes to Root Knot Nematodes, Meloidogyne javanica
Root-knot nematodes, Meloidogyne spp., are one of the important plant parasitic nematodes of tomato in the world. The most suitable control method of plant parasitic nematodes is the use of resistance sources and tolerant cultivars. In the earlier studies, the results showed thatonly 2% (19 out of 537 varieties) were resistant and tolerant to the root knot nematodes. In the supplementary studie...

متن کاملDifferential effects of raw and composted manure on nematode community, and its indicative value for soil microbial, physical and chemical properties
The impacts of two organic soil amendments on nematode abundance, community structure and soil characteristics were studied in field grown tomatoes. We hypothesized that as the raw (labile form) and composted (non-labile form) manures differ in their chemical composition and effect on microbial activity. Also they will have different effects on soil properties and directly and indirectly affect...
متن کاملImportance of Plant Parasitic Nematodes in Colorado Crops
Nematodes are worm-shaped nearly microscopic animals, many of which are virtually invisible to the unaided eye when they are in the soil or within plant material. Of the known nematode species, approximately 50%, 25%, 15%, and 10% are free-living, marine, animal parasites, and plant parasitic nematodes (PPNs), respectively. Freeliving nematodes are very important in maintaining the soil bio-dyn...
متن کاملAllelopathy in the management of plant-parasitic nematodes.
There are numerous reports of nematicidal chemicals in crude plant homogenates, leachates, and decomposing residues. These compounds are usually assumed to be secondary metabolites, which serve as chemical defenses against disease and parasites. When such compounds are released into the rhizosphere, they are known as allelochemicals. The possibility exists to exploit allelochemicals for nematod...
